Electrical System Modeling

System Modeling & Studies

The initial phase of designing a new electrical system, or expanding an existing system, is the development of an accurate model for the system. Below are our capabilities with regards to the modeling of electrical system:

Electrical modeling performed by an engineer.
  • Accurately modeling electrical systems including contributions from electric utility and additional generation systems.
  • Performing Load Flow analysis to ensure the voltages at the terminals of the various equipment are within an acceptable range.
  • Analysing Short Circuit system conditions of each electrical component to ensure the equipment can handle the short circuit fault current of the system, based on the contributions from the utility, local generation and motor loads.
  • Performing Coordination Studies to ensure all the protective devices, including digital relays, low voltage breakers and fuses are selectively coordinated. From this study all the settings for the microprocessor-based relays and low voltage breakers are determined.
  • Analysing Motor Transient Staring conditions to ensure the settings of the protective relays will permit the motor to start and adequately protect the motor from abnormal system conditions.
  • Performing Arc Flash studies. Based on the criticality of the electrical system, certain system may need to be maintained while the system is still energized. This study determines appropriate PPE the operator must wear while working on the electrical equipment, based on the incident energy at the equipment.
